About the Project
The Maria Edgeworth Letters Project is a collaborative digital edition of letters written by Maria Edgeworth featuring a spreadsheet tracking the worldwide locations of the letters and a growing collection of digitized letters. General editors of the project are Jessica Richard, Hilary Havens, Robin Runia, and Susan Egenolf. The digital team is Carrie Johnston, Heather Barnes, and Meredith Hale. Site design by Kelsey Urgo.
This spreadsheet is a work-in-progress recording worldwide locations of Edgeworth letters. Contact us if you have information on archives holding letters written by Maria Edgeworth.
The current focus of the Maria Edgeworth Letters Project is on letters held at many institutions and archives worldwide (excluding letters held at the Bodleian and the National Library of Ireland). Below [coming soon!] are several samples of letters that have been photographed, transcribed, and TEI-coded.
A digital archive of Edgeworth’s letters will allow scholars to map her correspondence network, identify her extensive reading practice, nuance our understanding of her engagement with political and intellectual trends over time, track verbal patterns, and expand knowledge of her writing and revision processes throughout her prolific career.
